Second Life
You’ve probably heard about Second Life. It’s a virtual world where the virtual you (your Second Life avatar) can socialize, work, do business, create art, listen to music, play sports, visit the library, and lots more. Oh yes, and you can fly, too!

Discovery Exercise:
Download the software for Second Life and create an avatar. Explore the Second Life getting started tutorial and then make your way to the Second Life Library. Here’s how:
-
You move your avatar using the arrow keys on your keyboard.
-
You talk to people (you can ask directions!) by using text chat at the bottom of your screen.
-
To go to the Info Island reference desk (where a librarian can help!) click on the search button at the bottom of your screen and search for “Info Island Second Life Library”. Select the result “Info Island International Reference Desk”; when you see it on the screen, click teleport and you’ll be there in an instant.
If you want to go to the LIBRARIAN DANCE PARTY at Toby’s on Thursday evening (March 27) meet my avatar “Vella Basevi” at the SL reference desk at 7:00pm and we’ll teleport from there. I hope to see you then!
Note: some individuals' computers are unable to run Second Life, either due to the speed of their computer or their video card. Also, it’s probably not a good idea to install this software on a public computer at the library.
